Inside Tommy Mendonca’s Surge
When you put up seven straight games like Frisco third baseman Tommy Mendonca has, you deserve a blog post of your own. That’s what Mendonca gets now.
Over his last seven games, Mendonca is hitting an absurd .633 (19-for-30). In tonight’s 5-2 loss to Corpus Christi, Mendonca actually had his “worst” run of the week. He went 1-for-3 with a solo homer in the fourth inning. He also walked, popped to short and grounded to second.
Here are his stat lines prior to tonight’s effort:
- Friday v. San Antonio: 3-for-4, RBI, R
- Saturday v. San Antonio: 2-for-5, HR, 4 RBIs
- Sunday at Midland: 3-for-4, R
- Monday at Midland: 4-for-6, 4 RBIs, 3 R
- Tuesday at Midland: 3-for-4, RBI, R
- Wednesday at Midland: 3-for-4, 3 RBIs, 2 R
When you add it up, Mendonca has driven in 14 runs and scored 10 times in the last seven days. He not only has a seven-game hitting streak, but he has a seven-game extra base hit streak (5 doubles, 1 triple and 2 homers).
One week ago, Mendonca’s average sat at .286. It is now .329, which paces all RoughRiders. For the month of June, he is hitting .429 with 19 RBIs, which is already more than his totals for April and May.
In other words, he’s pretty good at baseball.
