Packing for Pawtucket

The RoughRiders experienced a perfect game, a no-hitter, another trip to the playoffs, and many more memorable moments in 2011.  There were walk-off wins, a blockbuster international signing, another deadline trade, and two more ‘Riders made their way to Arlington. I was fortunate to be the one allowed to bring these events to you over the air and also on this blog.

It’s because of these great memories that it’s bittersweet to announce that I won’t be back in Frisco for the 2012 season.

I recently accepted a play-by-play position with the Pawtucket Red Sox, the Triple-A affiliate of (obviously) the Boston Red Sox.  Pawtucket is a small town of about 72,000 located in Rhode Island, just a pop fly from the Massachusetts border.

Not only does this allow me the opportunity to move up to Triple-A, but for the first time, broadcasting is actually moving me closer to family.  My in-laws, and much of my wife’s extended family, live in Massachusetts, and are naturally big Red Sox fans.

I met dozens of wonderful people in my two years in North Texas.  From my co-workers in the front office and our great press box staff, to the players and coaches, I formed some fantastic, lasting relationships.

Although my replacement hasn’t been chosen yet, I’m sure that the club will find someone who will more than adequately fill the position both on and off the air.

Thank you to everyone who visited this blog so frequently, and also to Brian who helped to launch the blog and created such great content during the season.

Thanks to all for two great years,

-AG
