In a swift turn of events, a no-hit bid by Corpus Christi’s Chris Devenski ended abruptly in the seventh inning. Not only did Devenski forfeit the no-no, he could not finish the frame and left on the hook for the loss. Click here to read the full game recap.
Star of the Game: DH J.T. Wise – 1/2, 2B, 2RBI, BB, SO
It looks like the decision to sign Wise out of the American Association was just that – a wise one, indeed. The former Wichita Wingnut has been a doubles machine since his arrival in Frisco on July 11 (four in six games). In what became the game’s seminal moment, Wise’s line drive two-bagger down the left field line brought home the only two runs of the game for Frisco. The native of Apopka, Florida also ruined a perfect game attempt by Devenski when he drew a walk in the fifth. Devenski had seated the first 14 batters he faced.
In case you missed it:
-Erik Hamren registered his first save as a RoughRider and his first save in the Texas League since April 25, 2012 when the righty pitched for the San Antonio Missions in 6-5 win against…the RoughRiders.
-Corpus Christi outhit Frisco 5-2.
-The ‘Riders totaled all their hits and runs in the seventh inning.
-Frisco has not committed an error in four consecutive game, the team’s longest such streak of the season.
-The RoughRiders snapped a four-game losing streak, their longest of the season. The ‘Riders were the last team in the Texas League to avoid a four-game skid. Only Tulsa and Frisco have steered clear of the five-game losing streak in the Texas League this season.
-Gallo watch: 0-for-3, SO
The line may not show it, but it feels like Joey is on the verge of busting his current slump. Devenski made a great catch on a screamer back to the mound in the second inning.
