Today marks the beginning of Mascot Mania, a competition where YOU decide who has the best mascot in all of minor league baseball. From now until August 1 is Round One, in which the ‘Riders mascot, Deuce, is competing against the other seven mascots from the Texas League.
Last year was the inagural year of the Mascot Mania, but the rules have changed this season. Deuce needs only to outlast the other Texas League mascots to capture victory and make it the finals.
Dates: Round One begins on Thursday, July 18 and runs through noon on Thursday, August 1. Round Two starts around 2 PM EDT on Thursday, August 1 and ends at noon EDT on Thursday, August 8.
Matchups: Every team will be in a group with the other teams from its League for Round One. Deuce is in a round with the other Texas League mascots. Each League winner will advance to Round Two to compete for the overall championship. The overall winner will receive a “Championship Belt”:

Baseball term of the day: yakker – a mean, sharp-breaking, overhand curveball
On April 27, Dr Pepper Ballpark held host to RoughRiders Kids Day. Parents and children came out early Saturday morning, excited to meet players on the ‘Riders roster, got to meet Deuce and Daisy, and participated in fun activities and enjoy a morning at the ballpark.

The kids enjoyed running the bases of Dr Pepper Ballpark.

Kids tested how accurate they could throw, also!
Fans also jousted their favorite RoughRider. Here, one young fan battles pitcher Kevin Pucetas.
The kids also enjoyed other inflatables: Giant Slide, Obstacle Course and Boxing.
At the end of the morning, the kids enjoyed getting autographs from the 2013 RoughRiders.
If you’ve ever been to a RoughRiders game, you’ve surely had some experience with “The CREW.” Maybe they chose you out of the crowd for a skit or game; or maybe you got a chuckle from seeing Deuce douse an unsuspecting umpire with a bucket of water.
Well if you or someone you know is energetic, fun and likes performing in front of an audience, the ‘Riders want to hear from you. Gabriel Wilhelm, our hilarious Director of Game Entertainment, will be overseeing auditions for new members of The CREW in addition to new mascot performers for the 2013 season. Gabe is a lot of fun to work with and for a summer job, you could do far worse than playing games and dancing at a baseball stadium and putting smiles on the faces of fans.
The tryouts will be on December 8 & 9 at Dr Pepper Ballpark and you’ll have to pre-register with Gabe to secure an audition time slot. For more information, check out this page on the RoughRiders website.
